Tri-Star Recycling holds several industry certifications to ensure your company’s surplus technology assets are safely and securely recycled or repurposed.
As most of the world’s businesses move at least partially online, the problem of disposing of the electronic devices needed to sustain it all grows. There are multiple issues with disposing of your company’s old computers and other electronic equipment, including data security and the environmental threat posed by the physical disposal of these components.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends all electronic recycling companies become certified. This is accomplished by demonstrating an ability to meet specific requirements for management and safe recycling of electronics to a third-party auditor. This auditor must be accredited and operate independently.
R2 Responsible Recycling
Tri-Star Electronics Recycling meets these standards qualifying for the R2 Responsible Recycling Certification, recently completing their renewal in August 2021. Developed by SERI, a non-profit ANSI accredited standards develop organization, an R2 Certification is defined this way: “The R2 Standard provides a common set of criteria to recognize responsible reuse and recycling practices, all along the used portion of the electronics lifecycle. R2 Certification is the formal program for evaluating and monitoring businesses in meeting the R2 Standard, protecting the environment, the health and safety of workers, and communities, and positively impacting the movement toward a sustainable circular economy while enriching the lives of people all around the world.” – SERI FAQs – What is R2 Certification
ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015
Other certifications are valuable in the electronic recycling industry to ensure not only the electronics are recycled safely, but also the workforce is being protected. TSR recently renewed their ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015.
ISO 45001:2018
This certification pertains to the safety conditions for employees involved in sorting, dismantling, resale and reuse of electronic equipment and associated supplies. By agreeing to follow these standards, TSR improves occupational health and safety, eliminates hazards and minimizes risks for their workers.
ISO 14001:2015
This certification is intended for use by an organization seeking to manage its environmental responsibilities in a systematic manner that contributes to the environmental pillar of sustainability.
